Full Moon today at 12.58 pm. This is the Flower Full Moon, when many plants are flowering. 

Witches broom is of course not yet flowering but it is thriving. Witches broom is a biennial plant, with the second year plant growing a long stalk, the broomstick of the witches broom. Before the stalk develops it is hard to tell if it is a first or second year plant. The medicinal qualities of each vary. 

I think this are second year plants with stalks just about to emerge. I will be keeping an eye on them and let you know. 

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, which runs parallel to the GAP much of the way between Cumberland to Frostburg, is once again using the historic Steam Locomotive 1309, one of the few active steam locomotives still operating in the United States. Railroad buffs are swooning over this.
