Spotted some Poison Hemlock, also known as Water Hemlock (Conium maculatum), growing along the GAP. This is the Deadliest Plant In North America. All parts of the hemlock are poisonous and ingesting even the smallest amount can result in death. Most authorities advise against even touching the plant, as the poison can be ingested through the skin, and Some Even Advise Against Breathing The Air Near The Plant. A native of Europe and the Mediterranean region, poison hemlock is now found throughout the world. The Greek philosopher Socrates (c. 470–399 B.C.) was forced to drink a decoction of hemlock after he was found guilty of Corrupting the Youth of Athens and sentenced to death.
