Wanders on the Great Allegheny Passage | March Flora

 Moon Day 3

Starts Mar 30, 2025 07:32 AM

Ends Mar 31, 2025 08:03 AM

Wow! What a difference four days can make. On Wednesday I biked on the GAP from Garrett to Frostburg, a distance of about twenty miles, in below-freezing temperatures, passing by hills covered with half an inch of snow. Today it hit 70ยบ F. in Frostburg. March may be going out like a lamb. As usual at this time of the year a cornucopia of flora has suddenly appeared seemingly out of nowhere. Witches broom (mullein) was out before but it has really taken off in the last couple days. Saw for the first time greater celandine, purple deadnettle, Fuller's teasel, and common motherwort.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is running! This is one of two places it crosses the GAP south of the Cool City.
